Sam Taylor-Johnson, director of ’50 Shades of Grey’, will be shooting a biopic of Amy Winehouse
The film’s biographical project returns to singer Amy Winehouse. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Gray”) will be behind the camera for the production, which was prepared by Studiocanal. The movie will be called “Back to Black”. It is not known who will play the heroine.

Back to Black was created in collaboration with the heirs of Amy Winehouse. The project is being prepared by Studiocanal, and the script was written by Matt Greenhalgh, who has already done a number of film biographies. He wrote, inter alia, “Control” and “The True Story of the King of Scandal” and directed Taylor Johnson “John Lennon. A Boy From Nowhere.” Details of the plot have not yet been revealed. The search for an actress to play Winehouse is about to begin.

Alison Owen, Debra Hayward and Tracy Seward will produce the project on behalf of StudioCanal.

The greatest fame came from her album “Back to Black”, which included songs such as “Rehab” or “You know I’m not good”. The singer suffered from drug and alcohol addiction. She passed away in 2011 at the age of 27.

Winehouse was the protagonist of the Oscar-winning documentary “Amy”, directed by Asif Kapadia in 2015. In 2021, the BBC prepared a document dedicated to her called “Reclaiming the Amy”.

She also worked in the series “Gypsy” and “Solówki”, directing two episodes each.
