We appreciate that Ukraine remains at the center of his attention. We are grateful for the Pope’s efforts to restore a just peace and end a war that was not in any way caused by Ukraine, NATO or any other party, Nikolenko said.
In an interview published on Tuesday with Italian daily Corriere della Sera, the Pope said one possible reason for the Russian attack on Ukraine and Vladimir Putin’s stance might have been “NATO barking at Russia’s door.” He added that he was ready to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, but that he would not go to Kyiv for the time being.
