Nearly 10,000 new infections in Israel. close to record

The daily number of injuries is dangerously close to the record. Since the beginning of the epidemic, the country has seen similar data on the number of daily infections only at the height of the third wave of the epidemic – that is, in the second half of January – the Jerusalem Post reports.

However, the statistics from January and the current statistics show one fundamental difference. At the moment, the number of critically ill patients in hospitals is 692.

Meanwhile, in January, those numbers were twice as high – then there were an average of 1,200 serious cases of COVID-19. According to specialists, it is vaccinations that reduce the number of hospitalizations.

The high infection rate is in turn due to the rapid spread of the delta variant.

– The shape of the delta surprised Israel – the representative of the authorities, Prof. Dr. Salman Zarek. In his opinion, declarations of victory in the war against COVID-19 were premature. – Now we realize that it was just a battle and that the war is still going on. He stressed that we still need to explain and convince people to vaccinate.

The way to combat the circulating delta variant is to use a third dose of the vaccine.

According to recent guidance, Israel has decided to administer a third of the so-called booster dose to anyone over the age of 30. Eligible for this vaccination are those who received a previous dose of the vaccine at least five months ago.

Israel is the first country in the world to provide a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to such a large percentage of the population.
