NASA’s first images from the Webb Telescope. We’ll look into the depths of the universe tonight

Initially, NASA planned to release the first images from the James Webb Space Telescope on Tuesday, but decided to change the plans a little. The first image will be shown tonight during a special broadcast from the White House. The President of the United States, Joe Biden, will participate in the event.

NASA It was announced that the first image captured by the James Webb Space Telescope will be rendered at 3 p.m. EDT, which is our 23rd time during the live broadcast. The painting will be unveiled by the President of the United States, Joe Biden himself. He will be accompanied by NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, who will talk about the phenomenon presented to it. The event will be broadcasted online.

The premiere of the following panels is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 AM ET (in Poland it will be at 4.30 PM). The event will be accompanied by press conferences for NASA scientists.

NASA released the list

The agency also provided a list of objects whose images and spectra will be displayed. They were selected by an international panel composed of representatives from NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI).

The list includes the Carina Nebula (NGC 3372), the exoplanet WASP-96 b, the Southern Ring Nebula (NGC 3132, also known as the Broken Eight), the Stefan five-star group of galaxies, and the gravitational lensing SMACS 0723.

What will we see exactly?

The Carina Nebula is one of the largest and brightest nebulae in the sky. It is located about 7,600 light-years away toward the constellation Kila. It is known to be the home of many massive stars.

WASP-96 is a gas giant planet located outside the solar system. It orbits a star 1,150 light-years from Earth, which makes it 3.4 days. The mass of the body is approximately half that of Jupiter, and it was discovered in 2014. In this case, NASA will display its ghost.

The Southern Ring Nebula belongs to the category of planetary nebulae. It’s a gas cloud around a dying star. This nebula is half a light year in diameter, and about 2,000 light years away.

On the other hand, Stephan’s Quintet is a very distant object, 290 million light-years away. It is the first compact group of galaxies discovered by Edward Stefan in 1877.

In the case of SMACS 0723 we are dealing with the phenomenon of gravitational lensing. The massive cluster of galaxies amplifies and distorts the light of the objects behind them, allowing you to look at galaxies that are very distant and very faint.

What is the James Webb Space Telescope?

The James Webb Space Telescope was launched on December 25, 2021. It has a 6.5-meter mirror that detects infrared radiation. It is a project implemented by NASA in cooperation with the ESA and CSA space agencies.

A few days ago, NASA presented a test image that was supposed to show a preview of the true capabilities of the telescope.
