You might be tempted to say that a car’s rain sensor functions as a weather station. The high sensitivity of the sensors means that even the first drops are detected, even before the driver notices that the rain has started.

The sensors use LEDs. When water appears, the flow of light is restricted to them. This is a signal to the system that it is time to start the wipers. The difference in the intensity of the light waves causes the feathers to operate at different intensities. It will move sequentially when the rain is light, or run continuously when the driver encounters heavy rain.

There are always situations when the sensor has to work. It may happen that it reacts, for example, to a few single drops, de facto wiping the glass dry. If it’s dusty, we could theoretically scratch it. As a precaution, it is better to turn off the sensor if there is no rain.

The system is deactivated after changing from automatic to manual mode. This can be done using a special button or by shifting the spaces to a position other than the position indicated by the number “1”.
