Beneficial effects of vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids. Surprising search results

These are the first results of this research. American scientists from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston found that regular vitamin D intake decreased by 22 percent. risk of developing autoimmune diseases. During 5 years, a group of 26,000 people was tested. Scientists supplemented people over 50 with a combination of vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids and a placebo. People who took vitamin D were less likely to develop diseases such as psoriasis and arthritis. The volunteers received vitamin D at doses of 50 mg and omega-3 acids at doses of 1000 mg. Among the patients who received vitamin D, only 123 developed immune system diseases compared to 155 in the placebo group. In contrast, omega-3 fatty acids were allowed to reduce by 15%. risks of this group of diseases. Scientists say more research is needed to understand why supplements containing vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids help strengthen the body’s immunity. So far, clinicians have not been able to investigate reducing the risk of these conditions in humans, said study author Dr. Jill Han. These diseases are prevalent in the elderly and negatively affect health and life expectancy. Until now, we had no proven way to prevent it. She added that it is now possible for the first time. The scientists published the latest research findings in the British Medical Journal.
