Thirty-one years after the historic Olympic Stadium riots, Metallica will return to the massive Montreal Amphitheater on August 11th and 13th during their world tour. M72. A series of concerts followed the release of the new album 72 Seasons, Launched on April 14.
James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo will kick off the 46-show tour, which will make 22 city stops in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on April 27.
Metallica will play two different concerts in each city except Mexico City, where the quartet will play four shows.
The quartet will perform on a center stage. A “snake pit” that accommodates a limited number of amateurs will be set up inside the stage to provide a 360-degree view.
It will be a return to a crazy evening on August 8, 1992 for Metallica. Singer-guitarist James Hedfield suffered burns to his hand and face when a pyrotechnic piece exploded at the concert. An accident put an end to their performance.
Especially this evening, when Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose decided after nine songs that he’d had enough, it sparked a riot that marked the history of rock concerts in Montreal.
Quebec has none
Metallica will not be passing through the old capital for the stadium tour, which ends in September 2024 in Mexico City. There will be only one other stop in Canada: August 23rd and 25th at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta.
Metallica notes on its website that the group will not be adding dates for 2023 and 2024, except perhaps for a few rare appearances at special events.

Metallica does not have any shows June 16-18, 2023 in Gothenburg, Sweden and August 4-6, 2023 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

“The FEQ, as usual, does not comment on upcoming programming,” Véronique Bouillé said in an email exchange.

First parts
The groups performing in the first part will be different each evening. In Montreal, a new version of Pantera with Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown, Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante, as well as Mammoth WVH, starring Eddie Van Halen’s son, will be released on the evening of August 11. Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills will hit the screens on August 13. Architects, Greta Van Fleet and Volpit will do the same at different times on this tour.
