ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4090 Strix Gaming OC – testing the fastest, longest and most expensive graphics card

They say size doesn’t matter, but the above rule doesn’t seem to apply to graphics card cooling systems. Surely, the designers of the ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4090 Strix Gaming had never heard of such a thing, because when I took the device out of the box, I was a little dumbfounded. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition was just the right size, easily deserving of being called a radiator, but the equipment reviewed turned out to be larger. The almost 36 cm chassis is the true record holder of all time, aside from the monstrous inventions of the 3Dfx Voodoo5 6000 class. Let’s check if the ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4090 Strix Gaming really does what it looks like…

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000 family of graphics cards is based on the architecture Ada Lovelace, which has undergone a number of improvements over Ampere driving the GeForce RTX 3000 series. First of all, more L2 Cache memory has been added, GPC blocks have been rebuilt, and fourth-generation Tensor units and third-generation RT units have been introduced. The manufacturer’s primary goal was to increase the efficiency of ray tracing and improve DLSS technology. This is where the most serious tweaks were made, because DLSS 3 will not only scale the image, but also double the number of animation frames, while eliminating a bottleneck on the processor side. However, DLSS 3 only works on Ada Lovelace chips because it requires new computational units built into Gen 4 Tensors. TSMC’s 5nm lithography has also been used to cram 2.5x more transistors into a similar surface area, as well as achieve high clock speeds. Relative to its predecessor, you can expect a 60-70% performance increase in rasterization, up to 100% in ray tracing and 100-400% in DLSS.

The ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4090 Strix Gaming is a beastly 36cc graphics card, but it delivers extreme performance and an insanely high cooling system work culture.

The ASUS ROG Strix Gaming is the most powerful yet premium design in the manufacturer’s offering, engineered for unrivaled performance and an above-average work culture. They usually meet the above assumptions, being considered the best models in their class. The GeForce RTX 4000 generation is generally very inflated in size, and all manufacturers have prepared giant cooling systems, so what did ASUS come up with? It inserts a larger cooler that integrates several small improvements to make the ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4090 Strix Gaming the best without reference. It should be noted that the base timings and final performance of almost all GeForce RTX 4090 models are similar, which is why the competition has moved to the more difficult front of the boot culture. Temperatures are also an important factor in the primary timing shaping process, and a combination of higher performance and the quietest operation possible would be best. It sounds a little fancy, especially in the context of the most powerful graphics chip available on store shelves, but the ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4090 Strix Gaming has ambitions to do the theoretically impossible.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 – Performance Test on AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs Intel Core i9-13900K in Graphics Spaces

The declared GPU Boost clock speed for the ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4090 Strix Gaming OC is 2610MHz, but in reality, under maximum load, the frequency was at least 2775MHz. Memories run with a standard clock of 21,000MHz, and no manufacturer has ever raised the factory setting even by 1MHz. In short, the ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4090 Strix Gaming OC will be one of the fastest proprietary models right out of the box. It is also difficult to ignore the issue of dimensions, because everything measures approximately 36 cm in size, so before buying it is better to be 100% sure that the flagship will fit into our housing. The equipment is indisputably impressive even compared to the class competition. The card has a DUAL BIOS – Quiet and Performance – both of which will be checked in terms of temperatures and volume, while the performance tests were run on a stronger profile. However, the differences in timings are nominal, and it locks in at a maximum of 30MHz if we’d prefer to play at 4K Ultra settings (how else). Let’s check out the actual capabilities of this beast…
