The newly discovered planet has been designated TOI 700 e. It is located in the habitable zone of its star TOI 700. A habitable zone is the region in space that extends around a star – on planets in this zone there can be chemical and physical conditions that allow life to emerge, maintain, and evolve.
A new orb has been registered thanks he-goat (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite). Thus, the new planet joined TOI 700 d, which was spotted in this system in 2020 (which is also in the habitable zone).
“This is one of the few systems we know of with many habitable small planets,” said Dr. Emily Gilbert of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California. The TOI 700 system is an exciting prospect for further work. Planet E is about 10 percent. smaller than planet d, so the system also shows how additional TESS observations are helping us find increasingly smaller worlds.
TOI 700 is an M dwarf star located in the constellation Dorado, about 100 light-years away.
