‘A real struggle’: ‘Dahmer’ actor reveals why he took on the role

Evan Peters reveals why he decided to take on the role of Jeffrey Dahmer

Evan Peters faced an internal struggle to take on the role of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

In a joint interview with series creator Ryan Murphy with Variety, the actor admitted that his trust in his collaborator ultimately convinced him to tackle the character.

“It’s been a real struggle. I’ve really thought about it and tried to do it. I’ve gone back and forth a lot in my head. I know you bring an amazing support system, and I trust you, there’s integrity. To finish this thing as hard as I started, you I knew you would create a big safety net. If I fall, I can get back up and complete this project. I was up for the challenge,” he revealed.

In addition to the mental effort he had to put into playing Dahmer, Evan Peters also underwent a physical transformation for the role, following a no-carbohydrate or sugar diet to lose six kilos.

Despite receiving his first Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal, Evan Peters expressed hope for more fun roles in the future. “I’m going to take a break from dark roles and explore the light. It’s going to be interesting for me to play something a little more intimate, a little more casual, and explore the details of those kinds of experiences,” he explained.

Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy have worked together for most seasons of American Horror Story since 2011. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story premiered on Netflix in September.
