The Australian Northern Territory State Police said that the 3.6-meter-long crocodile “tracked children and adults” into a small village far from other human settlements, “jumped on them from the water,” and “kidnapped several dogs.” .
After meeting with indigenous elders, the police shot the crocodile. Local indigenous people confirmed to AFP that “the community prepared a dish from it as part of a traditional festival.”
The crocodile appeared in a river near the village, about a six-hour drive south of Darwin, the Northern Territory capital, during floods earlier this year.
One policeman told ABC public television that from what he knew, “crocodile tail soup” and several pieces of crocodile meat were “cooked in banana leaves and baked.”
