Grey's Anatomy Premiere Owned Thursday Night

The newest ABC sensation "Grey's Anatomy" made the switch to Thursday night for this season. The network's heavy hitter is stacked against several shows in its 9PM timeslot. In the teen demographic lies FOX's "The O.C." and The CW's "Supernatural," but more in range of "Grey's" target demographic of adult drama lies CBS's "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

"CSI" is kicking off its seventh season, and "Grey's Anatomy" is beginning its third. Yet, "Grey's" began with a bang that delivered a pretty serious blow to the seasoned and popular "CSI," which is often considered in the graduate realm of "Law & Order" as TV shows flourish these days. Despite the solid success of "CSI," its new competition drew 25.4 million viewers as compared with 22.6 for "CSI."

The Nielsen ratings research illustrated a significant difference between this year's "CSI" premiere results and last year's premiere which drew a hefty 29 million viewers. The sudden drop of 6.4 million people can almost certainly be attributed to "Grey's Anatomy" and the massive following it has accumulated mostly in its strong second season. "Grey's" is clearly on top and staying there, so it appears that Thursday night has a new champion taking the lead.
