Red Doors Explodes at the Box OfficePosted by: MichaelGeorgia Lee’s award-winning debut feature film RED DOORS made an impressive bow in the opening weekend of its select-city theatrical release, earning the #1 specialty gross per-screen average of $17,525. Opening on September 8, the film grossed $35,050 on 2 screens. RED DOORS is currently playing at New York’s Angelika Film Center and ImaginAsian Theater, and will open in Los Angeles and San Francisco on September 22, with other cities to follow. The critically acclaimed RED DOORS premiered at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival, where it was awarded Best Feature Film in the NY, NY competition, and has screened at numerous festivals including OutFest (winning the Audience Award for First Narrative Feature and Grand Jury Award for Screenwriting ) and CineVegas (winning the Special Jury Prize for Ensemble Acting). RED DOORS tells the story of the Wongs, who are keeping up appearances as the model Chinese-American family. On closer examination we find that Ed Wong (Tzi Ma, The Ladykillers, Rush Hour), his devoted wife (Freda Foh Shen, A Might Wind), and their three overachieving daughters are in fact a rather bizarre family living disconnected lives. Eldest daughter Samantha (Jacqueline Kim, Charlotte Sometimes) rekindles a relationship with her ex-boyfriend (Rossif Sutherland); Julie (Elaine Kao) grapples with her newfound feelings for movie star Mia Scarlett (Mia Riverton); Katie (Kathy Shao-Lin Lee) risks life and limb to get even with her high-school nemesis Simon (Sebastian Stan, The Covenant); and Ed runs away to a Buddhist monastery to cope with his existential crisis.
