Weekend Box Office Report 9-17-06Posted by: ShawnHope everyone is having a good weekend. Today is one of the very rare moments where four new releases have taken over the top-ten list. First up is The Rock's "Gridiron Gang": A drama that deals with morally challenged kids in a juvenile detention center forming a football team. And coincidently the movie debuts just as football season has gone into full swing. Coming in at number two is Josh Harnett's 1940s mystery/thriller "The Black Dahlia" which has likely monopolized greatly on the success of the similar "Hollywoodland". The new animated film "Everyone's Hero" appears to be just the thing to take the kids to, but according to critics it's just as much a drag as it's trailers have brought us to believe. And finally newcomer "The Last Kiss" comes out of nowhere to take the number 4 spot. "The Covenant" has taken a drop since it's opening last weekend, and "Invincible" continues to be popular along with "The Illusionis" and "Little Miss Sunshine". I can continue to cling to my faith in the opinions of others when actual decent movies continue to dominate the list.
Next week we get a few films that some of us have been waiting a long time for. And I do mean a loooong time. "Feast", the official Project Greenlight 3 film, finally sees a limited release since it's completion several years ago. Due to the Weinstein's split with Dimension the film has seen several delays and reshoots. What will the final result be? Well let's crowd the theaters and find out. Also next week is Jet Lee's "final" epic martial arts drama "Fearless". A few of us are also super excited to watch pain and stupidity broadcast on the big-screen and now finally we have "Jackass Number 2" to satiate our appetites. "The Science of Sleep" from the director of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" also looks like a fun little indi-film that might be worth the price of admission.
Until next week.
