Weekend Box Office Report 9-10-06Posted by: ShawnThe full weekend box office report returns this week after a hiatus due to the Labor Day weekend. This weekend we see that the warlock/magic/action movie "The Covenant" from the creators of "Underworld" is the clear winner when numbers are concerned. Critics are agreeing though that the film people should be seeing is Adrian Brody and Ben Affleck's murder/mystery "Hollywoodland" about the apparent suicide (or was it?) of actor George Reeves who played TV's Superman during the 50s. The creators of "Ong Bak" also have a new film out this week, "The Protector", which apparently has some decent martial-arts action packed into it. Folks looking for the next Jackie Chan may find it with actor Tony Jaa.
Next week is Drama week. But don't you worry, there's another potentially sub-par animated film for the kids to drag you too as well. Topping the list is Bill Paxton in "Haven" which costars Orlando Bloom (Who's obviously getting all the publicity). Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is giving his high budget action-stinker films a rest and trying more dramatic roles including this fall's "Gridiron Gang" about a group of kids in a juvenile detention camp who start (or forced into rather) a football team. And for the kiddos you can see "Everyone's Hero" about a boy and his talking....baseball? William H. Macey, Whoopie Goldberg and Rob Reiner lend their voices to what I'm expecting to be a fairly dull experience at the box-office.
