Tartan Films Showcasing The Telluride Film Festival

The Telluride Film Festival, one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, has invited two highly celebrated and illustrious films from renowned independent film company Tartan Films, to play at their renowned festival this Friday. 12:08 East of Bucharest and The Page Turner will join the ranks of avant-garde cinema screened in the Rockies, prior to their North American release.

Winner of the Camera d’Or Prize for best first feature at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, Corneliu Porumboiu’s 12:08 East Of Bucharest tells the tale of an eclectic group of characters, brought together by chance at a local television station to remember the day when they stormed town hall chanting "down with Ceausescu". Phone-in viewers dispute the claims. In addition to Telluride, this festival favorite has also been invited to play at the Karlovy Vary, Seville and Jerusalem film festival. It opens theatrically this Spring 2007.

The second selection, The Page Turner, which premiered in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival, is an intense psychological thriller, written and directed by Denis Dercourt, who prior to filmmaking played solo viola for the French Symphony Orchestra. It stars Catherine Frot (le Diner de Cons, Le Trilogie de Lucas Belvaux) and talented newcomer Deborah Francois, who made her debut in last year’s Palme d’Or winner L’Enfant. The Page Turner opens theatrically March, 2007.

"We are extremely honored that such a historic and distinguished festival like Telluride, has invited Bucharest and Page Turner, two equally fantastic films, to play at its select event this year," says Laura De Casto, Managing Director of Tartan Films.
