When he was 10 years old, James Ellroy’s mother was savagely murdered by an unknown assailant. This childhood event sparked a dark obsession with death and brutality, inspiring many of his future writings, including The Black Dahlia, a story based on the famous 1947 unsolved murder of a young starlet. Feast of Death: The Dark Places of James Ellroy examines this horrific crime through conversations with key players, including the Los Angeles Police Department and the LA County Sheriff’s Department and posits what many believe to be the true story of the unsolved murder.
