Patrick Stewart Has Heart Surgery

X-Men actor Patrick Stewart is recovering in Los Angeles after undergoing a heart procedure to widen an artery, it was reported Monday.

Preemptive angioplasty was performed last week after a blood flow problem was detected during Stewart's annual physical Aug. 23, World Entertainment News Network said.

The surgery, performed to head off future problems, was a success and Stewart is resting for a few days before returning to work, publicist Kelly Bush said.

The 64-year-old British actor currently is filming The Game of their Lives and will soon begin voiceover work on American Dad, an animated series.

Stewart, known for his long-running TV role as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, missed a Toronto sci-fi convention because of the surgery.

On a personal note, I had hear that he was missing the convention, but we were never told why.  At least he had a viable reason for not showing up.  Can't say I was in tears as I'm not a Star Trek fan boy, but it was too bad that he wasn't there.  He is a great actor and it would have been nice to meet him.  All the Movies Online staff send there best wishes to Mr. Stewart and his family and hope he has a speedy recovery!
