Brian Yuzna speaks out about his new horror filmsPosted by:Brian Yuznas' most recent film "The Dark" has been given the "Go pass theatrical release and straight to video" card.Yuzna recently talked to Fangoria about it and he doesn't seem to surprised. "It is more and more difficult to get a theatrical in these days with the Hollywood studios dominating so many of the theatrical screens," Yuzna tells Fango. "And they are making horror. On big budgets!"
Yuzna's next project Rottweiler is set to be in theatres in Spain in 2005 and than will follow with a DVD/Cable release elsewhere. The film is based on a novel by Alberto Vasquez-Figueroa called El Perro. The film is a tale of a vicious dog with metal teeth, "It is probably mostly comparable to [his movie] PROGENY, in the sense that it is not a pedal-to-the-metal horror movie. It has more adventure and character than most of my films, and after this one I am looking forward to getting back to making a pure-blooded fright film." Next on the horizon for Yuzna is a little film called The Nun which he will produce, "At present we are shooting the next Fantastic Factory movie, called THE NUN, directed by first-time director Luis de la Madrid," Yuzna relates. "Luis was my editor on FAUST, and I was so impressed with his work on the movie that I had him direct some of the reshoots and inserts after the completion of principal photography. At that time, I touted him as a director for one of the Fantastic Factory films even though he had never even directed a short film before that. Well, now he is cutting his teeth on the demon nun!" Don't worry though Yuzna will be back with at the helm after that film with "Beneath Still Waters". It will be the tale of an evil city that is sub merged when a damn is built. After fifty years the evil will rise! Well doesn't sound to bad. This project sounds like it is a ways off though so we will have to wait and see what happens.
