Day of the Dead - Rhames is Capt. Rhodes

Do you remember Capt. Rhodes? I think every zombie fan does. Well, he was very well portrayed in George Romero's "Day of the Dead" by Joe Pilato. According to Fangoria who talked to screenwriter Jeffrey Reddick the remake, which is scheduled to begin filming in Bulgaria very soon, will star Ving Rhames as the leader of the military unit. When i heard that Rhames was cast i though of him portraying the character John, but i think he will be an excellent Rhodes too.

Reddick also revealed that Mena Suvari will play Sarah and Pvt. Miguel Salazar will be portrayed by Nick Cannon. The screenwriter also stated that "Obviously, weâ€™re all extremely excited about landing this cast. Mena Suvari has the intelligence, strength and beauty needed for the role of Sarah, and Vingâ€¦well, heâ€™s the man, what more can I say? Nick Cannon is playing Salazar, and people are going to see him in a whole new light after this role."

He also said that "The story is more of a reimagining than a shot-by-shot remake; think the 'Dawn of the Dead' remake, not 'Psycho'. The original 'Day of the Dead' was a great film, and it would be arrogant to think that we could do a scene-by-scene remake of a Romero film with a bigger budget and do it better." Well, this means that Ving Rhames will not portray his part from the "Dawn of the Dead" remake again, as some of the fans have thought. Maybe the filmmakers even bring in something from the original screenplay George Romero wrote and didn't find its way to film, because Romero wanted to bring his film unrated to cinemas without editing the movie and therefor the production combany trimmed the budget.
