Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest CodaPosted by: JerricaCodas are all the rage. They are the extra little surprise scenes that roll at the very end of the credits. They have become a reason for moviegoers to stick around the theater instead of rushing out once the end credits start to scroll up the screen. Many times people miss them because they don't know they are there. Other times people wait just in case there is one even though it's most likely that there's not. Codas are the CD bonus tracks of film. The most infamous coda of the year so far was attached to "X-Men: The Last Stand." The "X3" coda scene did or undid (depending on your point-of-view) some of the damage done by the movie to the X-Men film franchise mythology. IGN.com has been keeping track of the summer codas, listing the Pixar flick "Cars" as another one where you should stay in your seat if you want to catch that extra little bonus footage. And, they’ve announced that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel, "Dead Man’s Chest," has a coda just like its original. Seemingly, it is just a fun bonus as opposed to anything pivotal to the characters or plot as some codas are. "Constantine" and "X3" are a few examples where sticking around is not just a good idea but adds something to the movie as a whole. Then, there are others such as the coda in "Can’t Hardly Wait" where there’s just something amusing and cool about it that we can enjoy or that makes us laugh. This "Pirates 2" coda most likely falls under that second category. The first "Pirates" cost approximately $140 million to make and took in a treasure chest of box office gold just under $654 million worldwide, a little less than half of that domestic gross. "Pirates 2" cost approximately $225 million to make and it opens in theaters this weekend. And, don’t forget to wait for that extra something at the end of the credits.
