The Last Day of The WB

Sunday, September 17th will mark the end of The WB network. The WB will then be officially dissolved as a television station and absorbed into the The CW, the new network that will merge The WB and UPN beginning this fall season. While UPN has yet to announce any plans for its final hours on the air on September 15th, The WB has a plan for a grand commemorative exit.

From the hours of 5pm-10pm on its last day, The WB will broadcast the pilot episodes for four of its most prominent shows. The cornerstone showcase will start with "Felicity" (Keri Russell and Scott Speedman), then segue into the Joss Whedon universe with "Angel" (David Boreanaz) followed by the 2-hour pilot of "Buffy" (Sarah Michelle Gellar), and last but not least, "Dawson's Creek" (James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams).

Each series has left a noteworthy mark on a generation past of television fans and brought its stars into the spotlight, jumpstarting the careers of many cast members. The four main actors on "Dawson's Creek" have moved on to larger and deeper territory. Buffy's Gellar has moved on to movies and Angel's Boreanaz has moved on to the FOX show "Bones." The WB will have quite a night to exhibit the impact it has had with its best successes.

All the shows for this block of proud programming were chosen because they are no longer being made, whereas keystone shows such as "Smallville" will be continuing their run on The CW. Also included in The WB's bow out, will be DVD promos for many shows belonging to the studios involved, and there will be a long line of actors who have appeared on the network and will pay tribute to The WB for its last stand. Clearly, Warner Brothers television is ready to celebrate the end of one era and the beginning of another.
