Dark City sequel possible?

So apparently director Alex Proyas (The Crow) recently visited a movie forum and posted an interesting tidbit concerning one of his best (yet highly under-rated) films to date; "Dark City". First of all the movie is set to be re-released as a special edition DVD. Hopefully with some extra goodies loaded that will make us fanboys squeal with glee. And it seems that based on the upcoming reaction of that DVD, a sequel may be on the way. Personally Proyas doesn't seem too convinced that a sequel is likely due to studio uninterest. But if given the opportunity I'm sure he would jump on it.
"DC was hardly a smash hit at the box office so it is unlikely, if a sequel was made, they'd give me a huge budget to work with," said Proyas "So don't worry too much about that! I am more and more interested in the idea of a sequel, and who knows, after the special edition comes out, with everyone's support behind it, a sequel…maybe who knows…but I've already said too much."
"Dark City" is one of those cult films that gained its fan following after its release to video. I too was not intrigued by the theatrical trailers enough to pay $10 to the box-office. But once I had seen the film on cable I sure as hell shelled out $20 for a copy. It is surprisingly an amazingly artistic and entertaining film that everyone should see at least once. I'm not sure how much justice a sequel would do it, but if Proyas were behind it I would give it a chance.

Rufus Sewell, William Hurt, Kiefer Sutherland, and Jennifer Connelly are the major players in the film which branches to new levels of the dark thriller and science fiction genres. In a city that never seems to see the sun a group of beings called "Strangers" conduct experiments upon the inhabitants. To study the human soul they interchange memories and lives among the citizens. One day you could be a straight-arrow cop. The next day you could be vile and demented criminal. The strangers also have the ability to "Tune" the city, changing it to fit their needs. When John Murdock (Sewell) awakens in the middle of being implanted with a memory he wanders the city trying to put the pieces of his life together and solve the ultimate mystery of Dark City.
