BoxOffice Report June 4th, 2006Posted by: ShawnI stand corrected. Last week during the BoxOffice Report I made the comment "Next weekend Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Anniston fight over a condo in "The Break-Up", but they're going to have to fight even harder if they want to dethrone "X-Men" this early in the game". Truthfully I couldn't imagine that it might actually happen. Never lose faith in the boxoffice-draw power of Vince Vaughn I suppose. "X-Men", while at least still at the #2 spot, did do drastically worse in revenue this weekend than in it's opening weekend. Almost a 66% drop in fact. I guess everyone went to see it the first week and the repeat business hasn't been as much as people might expect. I think the next biggest shock comes from the addition of "An Inconvenient Truth" to the top 10. In fact this weekend it managed to make over 300% more than it did it's opening weekend. Sure you should never lose faith in the boxoffice-draw power of Vince Vaughn...but Al Gore? Crazy.
Next week the additions of "The Omen" and "Cars" are sure to have a huge effect on the top 10. "Over the Hedge" is going to drop to the bottom if not be completely removed by "Cars". "The Omen" is opening Tuesday and will not have to compete with anyone at least until the weekend, so while it will have a headstart, it's not going to make as much for next Sunday's BoxOffice Report (which only calculates the weekend numbers). "A Prarie Home Companion" and "Heart of the Game" round out next week's releases
