Good Times: The Complete Sixth Season on DVD August 1st

TV’s beloved Evans family returns for the last time when Good Times: The Complete Sixth Season debuts on DVD August 1.  The series features a 12-year-old Janet Jackson, comedian Jimmie Walker as the Evans’ wise-cracking son J.J. (whose “Dyn-O-Miteâ€? became a popular ‘70s catchphrase) and Ja'net Du Bois (Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle) as the Evans’ neighbor and best friend Willona.  This season also marks the return of Esther Rolle as the Evans’ family loving and wise matriarch, Florida.  Featuring all 24 episodes in a three-disc set, the series will be available for $29.95 SLP from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. 
Created by TV legend Norman Lear (TV’s “All in the Family,â€? “Sanford and Sonâ€?) as a spin-off of “Maude,â€? Good Times hit the airwaves on February 8, 1974, as a mid-season replacement and quickly became a “Top 10â€? hit for CBS.  A breakthrough show for American television, Good Times struck a chord with audiences by tackling controversial subjects from a uniquely African American perspective and was rewarded over the course of its 133-episode run with three Golden Globe Awards®.

Good Times focuses on a poor but proud Evans family living in the projects on the south side of Chicago.  The family may struggle against adversity, but still manages to keep its head held high, with a good sense of humor.  During the show’s sixth season, Florida returns home and becomes a bus driver, Thelma gets married to a professional football player and J.J. becomes an art teacher, all leading up to a touching and comedic final episode where we learn the futures of each character.  Sixth season guest stars include Sheryl Lee Ralph (TV’s “Designing Womenâ€?), Bubba Smith (Police Academy), John Witherspoon (TV’s “The Boondocksâ€?), Gary Coleman (TV’s “Diff’rent Strokesâ€?) and Kim Fields (TV’s “The Facts of Lifeâ€?).
