Captain Nemo Returns

Empire is reporting that NewLine Cinema is taking us on another trip to "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". Based on a pitch by Craig Tilly, Sam Raimi is expected to produce (but not direct) this new film based on the novel by Jules Verne.

Disney originally made a film version of the book in 1954, and since then there have been numerous versions for TV and animation. Captain Nemo and his ship the Nautilus have also been featured in various "sequels" and the occasional cameo role. Naseeruddin Shah being one of the most recent actors to portray the captain in the big-screen adaptation of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

Most (if not all) of Jules Verne's works have been used by Hollywood in some way or another. Another adaptation of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" is scheduled for a release next year and will star Brendan Fraser in a contemporary version of the novel in glorious 3-D.

We'll keep you updated.
