Fraser Goes on a Second Journey (Through the Earth!)

Actor Brendan Fraser has been signed on to work with director Eric Brevig on the New Line Cinema and Walden Media production (remake) of Jules Verne's classic novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth". The movie will be a contemporary revisioning and will be released in 3-D format.

This version of Center of the Earth will concern a scientist (Fraser?) and his nephew who travel to iceland to check a volcanic sensor. When they become trapped, they must chart a route through the center of the earth (Why on earth they would want to do that is beyond me).

The description for the 2007 "Journey to the Center of the Earth" listed on IMDB has a different plot summary which makes more sense to me (as far as fantasy plots go):
A group of youngsters unearth Jules Verne's original manuscript of the novel and discover that Verne himself had taken the journey to the centre of the earth. Using the manuscript as a map, they follow Verne's journey to the core.

That comes out to sound more like a Goonies style movie and, in my mind, makes more sense by being less serious than the plot presented with the Brendan Fraser news. I haven't been able to determine which of these two plots will be utilized or if they will be combined.

Fraser can also soon be seen in a movie about a journey of a different type. "Journey to the End of the Night" will be released this October.
