Indie Film

James Marsden, who recently wrapped the Summit Entertainment/Endgame Entertainment production "The Alibi," will segue to the indie film "10th and Wolf." Bobby Moresco is directing based on a story he and Chazz Palminteri came up with. It finds Marsden as Tommy Santaro, a member of the Philadelphia street crew known as "10th and Wolf."

He accepts a deal to serve in the military instead of going to jail for getting mixed up in a mob hit only to get back in the wrong crowd in order to save his brother from going to prison.

Interesting movie concept, something that might be worth watching.

A feature film starring Val Kilmer and Freddie Prinze Jr. will begin shooting in Pittsburgh in September.  "10th and Wolf," which producer Suzanne DeLaurentiis describes as a Mafia-driven plot about a family in South Philadelphia, will film here for eight weeks. Other cast members include James Marsden, Lesley Ann Warren and rock star Tommy Lee.  Based on actual events, the movie was written by Chazz Palminteri, Joe Pistone and Bobby Moresco, who will direct the film.

Pistone is a former FBI agent whose career was the basis for the 1997 movie "Donnie Brasco," starring Johnny Depp and Al Pacino. "10th and Wolf" will be DeLaurentiis' second movie made in Pittsburgh. She produced the drama "Out of the Black" in 2000. "It was fabulous. I just love Pittsburgh," she said yesterday on the telephone from Los Angeles.

Dawn Keezer, director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, said, "We're thrilled to welcome Suzanne DeLaurentiis Productions back to Pittsburgh. It's nice our crews will be able to keep working after finishing 'The War That Made America,' " a four-hour WQED-TV documentary about the French and Indian War.

"10th and Wolf" will be filmed primarily in and around Downtown, said DeLaurentiis, who said the city doubles well for Philadelphia.

No decision has been made yet about whether another movie, George Romero's "Land of the Dead," will be filmed in Pittsburgh. Bernie Goldmann, president of Atmosphere Entertainment, said the company is assessing the effect of a bill offering tax credits to movie and TV productions made in Pennsylvania that Gov. Ed Rendell will sign into law today.
