Summer love... for movies. Some people can't wait for the summer to come, so they can sit by the pool and sip fruity drinks with little umbrellas. But summertime for this guy means, Summer Blockbusters! Say it with me people, BLOCKBUSTERS! Starting from April and lasting all the way until the end of September, this summer is guaranteed to keep you laughing, crying, thinking, and yes even keep you crept out. With so many movies coming out, it was definitely hard judging what is going to be hot, or a flop. But I took it upon myself to list out what I think is going to be this summer's top ten blockbusters! So let's get going!

Release Date: May 5th,
Tom Cruise is back for the third installment of the Mission: Impossible series. Cruise will star in J.J. Abrams mission, along with some original cast which includes Ving Rhames. Surprisingly, there is no plot outline, which makes me think, is this movie going to be hot, or a flop? Judging by the first two, and how impressed I was, I think this movie will be a great way to kick off the summer blockbusters.

Tom Hanks has stepped up to the plate to start in this long awaited, guaranteed to be a blockbuster mystery. If you haven't read the book, get reading!

It's a classic. Hanks teams up with a cryptographer to unravel a murder that occurred in the Louvre. They soon start to find clues that are hidden in the masterpieces of Leonardo Da Vinci. The clues lead them to a religious mystery that has been protected on this earth by a secret society for two thousand years. Definitely going to be a must see!

The mutants are back for a third sequel. This time they encounter a huge villain that goes by the name of Juggernaut. Original cast is back including Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen, and introducing finally Kelsey Grammer as Beast.

I don't know what to think of Kelsey Grammer playing the role of one of the most famous Mutants, Beast, but I'm sure the third sequel will leave fans very happy when they leave the theatres. Even though there are many more comic based movies coming out, X-Men have already proved that they can get the job done.

Release Date: June 16th Jack Black is the star of this movie, and if you have seen any of Jack Blacks movies in the past, you will know that he has the talent to leave you holding your gut from laughing.

In this comedy, a priest (Black) dons a mask and tights as a luchador and wrestles in the Lucha Libre (Mexico's professional wrestling circuit) to save an orphanage from closure. Jared Hess who directed the hit film Napoleon Dynamite, takes another stab of success with this movie. I personally think this movie will be funny and a must see, especially if you love comedies.

Release Date: June 23rd,
Frank Coraci directs this movie that has a very impressive cast that consists of Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale, and Christopher Walken. This comedy as long as every one of Sandler's comedy should be a hit, as the script got very good reviews. So don't think this is another Spanglish guys.

The story finds a workaholic architect (Sandler) comes to own a universal remote that allows him to fast-forward and rewind to different parts of his life. But a problem occurs when the remote start to make its own choices. Even though the plot doesn't give much details, you can use your imagination to think about where Michael Newman (Sandler) choices to revisit his past and future. Should be a good one, bring extra underwear guys!

Superman Returns Movie Poster Click for Fullsize ImageSuperman Returns
Release Date: June 30th,
Bryan Singer has signed on to direct the long awaited return of Superman, The Man Of Steel. The plot is simple, after a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel returns to Metropolis where he finds Lex Luthor, is back to his old tricks, and Lois Lane may have moves on.

The movie was put off so many times, that it almost seemed like the movie wasn't going to be shot, but finally its done and being a huge Superman fan, and having already read the script, I don't think you will be left wanting more. A young Brandon Routh was casted to play Clark Kent. There was a lot of skeptics about Routh playing the Man Of Steel, but he has gotten good reviews. Kevin Spacey is casted to play Superman's arch-nemesis, Lex Luther, and of course where would Superman be without Louis Lane. Kate Bosworth signed on to play Louis and has some big shoes to fill.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Mans Chest Movie Poster Click for Fullsize ImagePirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
Release Date July 7th.
Disney is laughing after the very successful first Pirates of the Caribbean. Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are back for the second and third installment of the series. This time, Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) finds out he owes a blood dept to ghostly Davey Jones.

He desperately searches for a way to pay off his debt or else he faces eternal damnation. Will Turner (Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) get hitched in the movie. I was shocked on how good the first movie was, and I am totally looking forward to seeing the upcoming sequels. Gore Verbinski, who directed the first movie is back on for the second and third installments. Looking as his filmography of hit movies that he has directed in the past, I know he won't let us down. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is going to be a for sure Summer Blockbuster! And you can take that to the bank!

Miami Vice Movie Poster Click for Fullsize ImageMiami Vice
Release Date: July 28th
Michael Mann signed on to direct this Movie version of the once hit show, Miami Vice. Looking at the cast, which consists of Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, I think this movie will be a hit with an older and mature audience who once watched the show, and with a younger group.

The plot is simple. Vice detectives James Crockett (Farrell) and Ricardo Tubbs (Foxx) take on the Florida drug world. There's not much else to say about this movie, I think it will be a hit.

World Trade Center Movie Poster Click for Fullsize ImageWorld Trade Center
Release Date: August 11th,
The events that took place on September 11th will go down in history as one of the most tragic events not only in U.S. history, but in the world. The great Oliver Stone directed this one and includes a cast of Nicholas Cage, Michael Pena, and Maria Bello.

The story is obviously about the events that took place on 9/11, but more importantly the story centers about two Port Authority police officers, John McLoughlin (Cage) and William Jimeno (Pena) that become trapped under the rubble of the World Trace Center. This movie, without a doubt is a must see, and will leave audience stunned, and probably tearful. So bring some kleenex guys, because this movie is going to touch the hearts of us all.

Open Season (2006) Movie Poster Click for Fullsize ImageOpen Season
Release Date: September 29th ,
This funny animated movie is about a deer that buddies up with a domesticated grizzly bear, that are alone in the woods during hunting season. Meanwhile a forest ranger who raised the bear, embarks on a desperate search to find her friend. This movie stars the voices of funny guys Ashton Kutcher and Martin Lawrence. Even though it is an animated movie, the combination of the two should leave the audience laughing no matter what age, because after all, who doesn't like a good animated comedy? I certainly do. Roger Allers and Jill Cutton co-direct this movie. This is a Sony picture, and this movie was made by the same people who made Monsters Inc, and Toy Story 1 & 2, which were all big hits in the box office. Which leads me to think, this movie is the perfect movie to wind up a great summer of Blockbusters!

So there is it guys, even though Open Range opens in the fall, and is the 11th movie on my TOP TEN list, I think it would be a perfect way to end the season of Blockbusters! So go out, and see a few movies this summer, I promise you, you won't be let down!
