The War of the Red Cliff : John Woo is back!

John Woo is back and not only that but he is bringing Chow Yun Fat with him. He will be developing his first Chinese-language film in over 10 years. What is the name of the film? The War of the Red Cliff. Chow Yun Fat has been offered the starring role. It will be the first time they have worked together since the classic Hard Boiled film in 1992.

The War of the Red Cliff will have a budget of $36 million which will be the most expensive ever in Chinese Cinema history. Production is said to begin in 2006. So we can all calm down and wait for a year or two to start getting anxious.

"Red Cliff" is based on historical events that took place in China 1,700 years ago and on a chapter in the popular novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." Some 600 years after its publication, the book is still widely read in China.
