Aliens vs Predator rules the Box Office

"Alien vs. Predator," a sci-fi movie based on a hit video game, replaced Tom Cruise as the most popular draw at the North American box office on Sunday, one of three new movies to open with better-than-expected numbers.

The new champ, which pits the creatures from the venerable "Alien" and "Predator" franchises against each other, earned an estimated $38.3 million in its first three days since opening on Friday, said its distributor, 20th Century Fox.

Having seen this movie over the weekend it was a pretty big let down. If you are a fan of Aliens or Predator you will probably enjoy it slightly. This is not anything like the original movies and the cheese factor is very high.

The film, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, stars Sanaa Lathan as an adventurer who stumbles upon an ancient rivalry between aliens and predators inside a pyramid buried under the Antarctic. Males comprised about 70 percent of the audience, according to polling conducted on Friday, said Bruce Snyder, Fox's president of domestic theatrical distribution.
