Sidekick tours Canada !Posted by: MacReadyVictory Man Productions is proud to announce the dates and venues for their upcoming Cross Canada Tour with their award-winning feature film, "Sidekick." The tour is being presented with assistance from Telefilm Canada's Alternative Distribution Fund. The announcement was made today by Michael Sparaga, the film's writer-producer, who also announced that "Sidekick" will be gearing up with an Opening Night Gala Screening at the 2006 Canadian Filmmakers Festival in Toronto on March 23rd.
"I hope Canadian audiences will delight in the fact that Sidekick is set in a very real, very urban Toronto," added Sparaga. "It's not enough to simply be excited to recognize Canadian landmarks in an American film. If Canadian filmmakers want to find Canadian audiences for their films, they should show them that exciting, magical things can and do happen happen here."
Not your typical Canadian feature, "Sidekick" is an original entry in the superhero movie genre, following the misadventures of comic book junky, Norman Neale, whose life finds new meaning when he discovers a cocky fellow co-worker, Victor Ventura, has slight telekinetic abilities. Audiences and critics on both sides of the border agree, "Sidekick" is "a smart, twisted take on superhero flicks and comic book culture" - James Rocchi, CBS. With several successful North American film festival appearances already under their belt, Mr. Sparaga and the film's director, Blake Van de Graaf, look forward to personally opening "Sidekick" across Canada, playing exclusive limited engagements in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary and Vancouver. See detailed screening information below. You also can check out www.sidekickmovie.com for more info. Mr. Van de Graaf commands a stellar cast that includes talented Canadian newcomers David Ingram, Perry Mucci and Mackenzie Lush alongside American co-star Daniel Baldwin (John Carpenter's "Vampires", Steve Buscemi's "Trees Lounge" and the Emmy-winning series "Homicide: Life on the Street").
