Which Way is Up? (1977) - Richard Pryor is playing three different roles here. The first being a poor orange picker named Leroy who gets laid off when by mistake he joins the worker's union during one of their demonstrations. Afterwards he leaves his wife and family behind which also includes Leroy's father(also played by Pryor) to go to Los Angeles. He ends up working for the same company that fired him back home. He is a manager at the company but he is now distant from his former pals. He meets and falls in love with Vanetta who is a labor organizer which leaves him splitting time between his wife back home and Vanetta. Leroy finds out that Reverend Lennox Thomas(also played by Pryor) has got his wife pregnant while he was away in California. Leroy then make the moves on the reverend's wife. DVD Features
Brewster's Millions (1985) - Brewster is a minor league baseball player. Unknown to him, he had a (recently deceased) rich relative. In order to test if Brewster knows the value of money, he is given the task of disposing of $30m in 30 days. Brewster isn't allowed to have any assets to show for the $30m or waste the money in any way. If successful, Brewster gets to inherit $300m. The biggest problem of all however, is that Brewster can't tell anyone what he's doing, so everyone thinks he's crazy. Add to this the fact that if he fails, two scheming trustees will get their hands on the money, Brewster's task is not an easy one. DVD Features
Car Wash (1976) - Car Wash is about a close-knit group of black employees who one day have all manner of strange visitors coming onto their forecourt, including Richard Pryor as a preaching 'wonder-man' who is loved by most but loathed by one, and a man who looks like a thief by the way he is holding his bottle, but it is really his urine sample as he is off to the hospital. T.C's love life takes a turn for the better and the songs keep coming. DVD Features
Bustin Loose (1981) - Joe Braxton is an ex-con who has been given a second chance to freedom after violating his probation. He has been hired by a school teacher named Vivian Perry to repair and drive an old school bus and drive a group of Special kids to Ms. Perry's Washington Farm from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to give them a new home after The Clarmont Center for Children is shut down by the city. The kids have severe mental problems and Joe is not looking forward to the trip at all, but Joe later bonds with Vivian and the children, offering his support and love and changes his outlook on life. But Donald, the social worker and Vivian's lover who gave Joe his break is hot on their tail and wants Joe back in prison. Joe and Vivian must now prevent Donald from sending the children back to Philidelphia where they'll have no future. DVD Features
Richard Pryor passed away on December 10, 2005. He was one of the biggest names in stand up comedy, and still is today. Update: This contest is now over. Congrats to Lisa Sterling for winning this great box set. |
