The creator of Sidekicks a new superhero flick posted a new update for his film on our discussion boards letting us know that things are progressing very well. No doubt in part to all the buzz the readers have generated. Here is what he has to say.
Season's Greetings Sidekick Friends, It's the holidays and I have some very awesome news: Telefilm Canada, Canada's federal film funding agency, has come onboard my little Indie superhero movie and is partially funding both a 35mm film blow-up and, get this, a cross-Canada tour! Woo hoo!
The biggest bonus to Telefilm's participation is that SIDEKICK now has the potential to play theatrically (I know it could have played theatrically on video, but this really increases it's chances).
And to prove it, in April 2006, I will be personally taking SIDEKICK across Canada, playing 1 night in theatres in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Regina, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver. Final dates and times aren't set quite yet, but if you've got friends and family in any of these cities, get them geared up to come out and support our film.
I'd also love to see some forumers at the screening(s). And even if you you've already seen it; (a) there ain't nothing like seeing it on film (nice and grainy plus 24 fps), and (b) we've cut 4 minutes out of the movie to make it move faster off the top, so no, you haven't really seen it!
Oh, but before we premiere our new film print in Canada, we'll be showing it South of the border at the 2006 San Francisco Independent Film Festival in February so the same thing applies to any family and/or friends there. We screen Feb 9th at 5:00 p.m. and Feb 11th at 4:30 p.m. at the THE ROXIE CINEMA, 3117 16th Street (at Valencia). A whole group of us from the movie are going to be in attendance at both screenings.
This just goes to show that movies shot on weekends on credit cards do have a chance to make it - if even ever so slightly.
Congratulations to the entire team behind the movie. Be sure and jump in on the discussion right here It is always great to hear about indie films we cover that continue to do well and grow.
