I figured it out... it's the only one of the four M. Night Shamalyn movies that.......
SPOILER: IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO RUIN THE MOVIE FOR YOURSELF STOP READING THIS PART!
It was the only one of his movies that did NOT contain something supernatural. I thought that was cool.
UNSPOILER! YOU MAY START READING AGAIN!
Also it was cool how M.Night played the ranger guy, but you did'nt even see him really, I was the only one out of my huge group of friends that knew it was him...I recognized his voice, and you saw him in the reflection of the glass door. Duh, sorry if you already knew that, and you prolly did.
Well, I thought it was a GREAT movie...alot of the scaryness was taken away though because the trailers showed alot, but there were parts that made you jump, and the scene when Ivy is alone in the woods...uhg...my heart was literally pounding in my chest.
The cast was unbelievably wonderful...eveyone really seemed to fit their characters, especially Bryce Dallas Howard and Joaquin Pheonix.
The only thing I would have changed would be that.......
SPOILER!!!
After Lucious and Noah had that "accident" they did not show much of Joaquin the rest of the movie...not that he could do much in his condition, but it was sad for Pheonix fans to suddenly learn that the movie is really about Ivy, not Lucious, like the trailers seemed to have claimed. LOL.
END of SPOILERS!!!!
No, in truth, the film is about love, and what people will show, and NOT show to those they love, to keep them safe. I think it's a good plot and M. Night's genius once again paralyzes you in the theater seat when the plot takes a sudden twist, sending you careening down a path the is totally opposite of what you expected. Like "The Sixth Sence".
I think that a few things in the film could have been better, but for the most part, it's a beautifully made film that emphazises what most of M. Night's films try to say. Beyond the scares and nightmares, the most important things...and the things that can get you through are family and love.
Well, as a future movie critic... I hope I've done justice to the film by critiquing it well enough.
Now, I'm off to bed...still thinking of the movie...I wonder if I'll be able to sleep....
