According to studio estimates, Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire
will have banked $101.4 million in box office revenue during it's
opening weekend. This puts Goblet in the fourth spot on the highest
grossing opening weekend of all time list, just behind SpiderMan II ($114.8 million), and Star Wars: Episode III and Shrek II (both $108 million).
The
success of this 4th installment places the series closer to other
records as well. Together, the first three installments of the Harry
Potter series grossed over $2.6 billion, and with the success of Goblet
and the possibility of 3 future films to come, it's only a matter of
time before the young wizard is hailed the all time king of the box
office.
But Prince Harry is going to need to keep the magic alive for some time until he can claim his throne. According to Leesmovieinfo,
the six Star Wars episodes have combined earnings of over $4.2 billion
worldwide, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy ranks second with just
over $2.9 billion.
Editors Note: Goblet of Fire
brought in $102.335 million at the box office during it's opening
weekend, a number that is obviously higher than the original studio
estimates.
