BattleStar Gallactica Season 3 Picked Up

BattleStar Galactica is Coming to DVD on December 20th and now SciFi Channel has picked up the show for a 3rd season. The best part is those of you who have not watched any of the series yet can watch the season finale online, right here.

This is the 2nd best tv show I have seen in the sci-fi genre behind Firefly By Joss Whedon which kicks equally huge ass!

I figure we can celebrate Season 2 coming to DVD with my reflections on Season 1. Afterall I am an award winning critic in my mind. Yes I have awarded myself more awards then you can possibly imagine! Including sexiest dude that writes for this site!

In BattleStar Galactica, The Cylons are back. What the frack you gonna do about it? All of mankind just got nuked, all your super high tech weapons did squat. You got two things going for you. Jack and Shit, and Jack just done left town.

Battlestar Galactica has been a smash hit for the Sci Fi Channel in it's first two seasons. Critically acclaimed, the first season's premiere episode "33" was recently named the recipient of the 2005 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form. Included in the 5 disk box set are all 13 episodes and the four hour TV miniseries that started it all.

With the 12 colonies of man virtually destroyed in the climax of a hundred-year war with the Cylon Empire, President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos) gather up the few humans left and embark on a journey to find the mythical planet Earth, not realizing that the Cylon robot is no longer a recognizable enemy. Battlestar Galactica is a complete re-imagining of the 1970s series – upping the ante on the action, adventure, and drama that made the original so popular.

In simpler terms think of it this way. A genius in the line with Einstein who is named Gaius works for the defense department making all kinds of cool gizmos. He gives his hottie girlfriend access to the defense department computers, and she hijacks them and wipes out humanity along with her cylon buddies. Whoops! Now that is what you call a bad date. Gaius goes on to be rescued and has all kinds of great mis-adventures and fun leading up to eventually becoming Vice President of the Colonial states.

You know thats a huge title when the colonial states have been obliterated. Its a great honor to get to lead the rag tag remnants of mankind, specially when you were the one that got em wiped out. Great writing, alot of depth and this is only one character!

This series is exactly what I had hoped that Star Trek Enterprise would have been. It has some great looking large scale space battles and it truly great script.

The acting, the story and the look and feel of this tv series are EXACTLY what a gritty sci-fi series should be all about. Granted its not as good as FireFox which just kicks every shows ass but it is still one hell of a great series.

The acting throughout this series is what makes it. Every actor and actress does a stand up job right down to the smallest role which really helps in getting the "feel" for the series. The Special FX accept for some very small scenes are top noth and you dont see the typical "recycled" cgi shot 14 times. Battlestar Gallactica is now my 2nd favorite sci-fi series behind FireFox.

So Now.. the last remnants of man, with their one last great battlestar "Gallactica" and a ragtag fleet of 50 refugee ships, and 50,000 refugees, make their way to EARTH. Their orders from the new president? "Have babies!" Cheesy yet so real and honest.

So off they go to a secret world the cylons and 99% of mankind do not know of Called Earth, but the Commander has told his crew and the refugees he does. Oh wait.. did I mention the Commander is full of crap and lied his ass off? The story is so well written that I found myself involved with the characters and twice during the series I had to stop and pause because the shock and drama of it just made me gasp. Very rarely will a tv series get me this involved and worked up, much less a sci-fi series.

This TV series is what those of us who got the box set for Enterprise were looking for, but didnt get. A perfect sci-fi series with good writing, enough violence and large scale sci-fi action to not feel "campy". Be warned the last episode is a definite "holy shit" moment and will have you clammering for season 2.

The question is are you going to get the DVD and join the adventure or sit there and go "wow can that dude write" all night :P Great TV series and sci-fi buffs will dig it. I did.

Little Disclaimer : I know Scott so I feel obliged to kick him as much as possible for mine and your entertainment. Its no harm since Scott didnt ever learn how to read, so we are all safe from his reprisals! No actual beatings took place during the writing of this article, but I did accidentally kill a wookie or two with my plasma rifle. My bad!
