Innocent Voices Movie ReviewPosted by: MichaelDaniel, our NY critic, had a chance to hit a screening of the Mexican Film Innocent Voices and has come back with reviews and reflection on it. Mexico's submission to the 2005 Academy Awards Best Foreign Language Film, "Innocent Voices" (originally titled "Voces Inocentes") is a heart wrenching tale of an 11 year old boys struggle to survive in a village located right in the middle of battles during the Civil War in El Salvador. Heading toward his 12th birthday, young Chava (Carlos Padilla) will soon have to decide whether to join the guerrillas or be conscripted to fight for the government's army. Based on the true life accounts of screenwriter Oscar Orlando Torres, the film touches on themes of innocence lost, the cruelty of war, and the unbreakable human spirit. "Innocent Voices" has been the Best Picture award recipient at many festivals, and has won numerous other awards that include Best Actor for Carlos Padilla at the 2005 San Diego Film Festival.
