Anchorman Legend of Ron Burgundy Review

Posted by:
Well, I just saw Anchorman on Friday and I'd like to share my thoughts on the movie. I'll start with a basic run-down of the story.

The movie takes place in the 1970's (we're never given a specific date) and it follows one Ron Burgandy (Will Ferrell). He is a mans man and the most respected and liked Anchorman in all of San Diego. Life is good, people love him, women adore him and everyone believes anything he says. However, soon someone comes along to shake up his little party...Veronica Corningstone (played by the vivacious Christina Applegate). She is drop-dead gorgeous and immediately draws the eye of our hero Ron. However, little does he know that she is starting a job working at his station. At first she gets the shaft when it comes to the big stories, covering nothing but 'feline' fashion shows and other 'womenly' topics. She also begins a relationship with Ron, which turns out badly as he blurts out some 'intimate' things on live TV. That is what starts the war between the two.

The movie itself was mildy funny but I found it had some pretty sub-par writing. A lot of the jokes went on longer than they should have and stopped being funny and started to become ridiculously stupid. Will Ferrell played his usual eccentric self and came off well. His supporting actors were little more than that...support. There was no outstanding performances from any of them. Christina Applegate did a good job portraying Veronica and definately came off well as the attractive, yet intellingent, girl with lofty dreams of becoming an Anchor-woman (although what she saw in Ron Burgandy I will never know!).

There were a lot of cameos in this movie including Jack Black as an angry biker (who gets hit in the face with a burrito ). Vince Vaughn plays Wes Mantooth, an Anchorman from an opposing station who always comes up 2nd next to Ron in the ratings. Right smack in the middle of the movie is when the majority of the cameos come to light. Ron and Wes have a 'West Side Story' show down, but several other news stations show up to make it a battle royal. Here we see Tim Robbins, Luke Wilson and Ben Stiller all playing Anchormen from opposing stations. This was probably the best scene in the entire movie...although it made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Altogether it was a silly movie but not over the top hilarious. It did make me laugh but most of the time I was wondering why I didn't go see
I, Robot insted. I'd be mad if I had paid the $11 to get it, but my friend had free passes

Overall I give this movie a 6/10, and mostly because it had Will Ferrell. Anyone else and it probably would have gotten a 4/10.
