Politics Dictates Land of the Dead Filming LocationPosted by:As
we have been reporting George Romero is going to be filming in
Pittsburg or Winnipeg. Apparently politics will dictate the final
answer. Canada offers a cheaper dollar and also gives large tax breaks
to film makers. That is why the 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead was
filmed in Canada.
The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports Romero would like to make the film in Pittsburg. Romero, who lives in Shadyside, PA, has shot most of his movies in Pittsburgh, 1968 horror film Night of the Living Dead and its two sequels, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead. The State Legislature has passed a bill authorizing tax breaks to local film makers and if the Governor signs it it will offset Romero's costs and possibly keep him there. When asked about it George Romero said.
Bernie Goldman a former Pittsburg resident and the president of Atmosphere Entertainment which is producing Land of the dead said.
The new project is budgeted between $15 million and $20 million. Set many years after 'Day of the Dead', society has returned to life in a new way. The zombies are rotting away into irrelevance & now disregarded much like the way homeless people are today, as the human survivors live in a fortified city, trying to live normal lives. Protecting them is an enormous tank-like vehicle called the Dead Reckoning with the artillery and firepower of a small nation. This story shows what happens when the Dead Reckoning's reasonable leader, Riley, is framed for murder and loses control of his command. Riley must try to take back control of this powerful vehicle, while at the same time battling his way through a city filled with zombies.
