I, Robot Review

The story takes place in the year 2035 in the windy city of Chicago. Everything is being run by robots, FedEx, garbage pick up and even restaurants. Enter our hero Homicide Detective Spooner (Will Smith). He has been weary of robots since they began to surface. He gets a call that there has been a "suicide" of one of his dearest friends.

With the help of one of the victims colleagues Spooner is able to find a suspect, a robot. At first he believes the robot commited the crime but later upon cross examing the robot he learns that this is only a clue left by his friend. As soon as he starts to dig deeper the robots begin acting up and mayhem ensues.

Will Smith comes off as Will Smith. Like he always does he plays pretty much himself, a smartass with great one liners. I'm not complaining. I would rather see him in this film than someone like Tom Cruise. Its obvious he went threw alot of working out to get ready for this film.

The robots and the city of Chicago are fantastic looking. I always find these films where they show us a grand scale of a city fascinating. The CGI is not to bad and the story is really what drives the movie, the way it should be. The robots are really cool to watch moving around the city delivering FedEx and picking up the garbage. Really makes you think what the future really could be like.

Defintely more of a action/ sci fi film than a comedic one. Will Smith doesn't lather on the humor to much. Just enough now and than to make you laugh and keep you interested. Smiths character is unique and has a lot of depth to him unlike some of his previous roles. Everything about the character is well defined and explained rather thouroghly.

That said I have not read the novel so I can not compare this film to the original book. A good movie movie with great plot twists and a well thought out mystery as well. I would suggest you go see this film at least once in the theatre. Its one of those films that you almost have to experience in the theatre to get the full effect.
