Sebastian Gutierrez finished filming for his upcoming Vampire movie "Rise", starring Lucy Liu. Although the movie is rooted in horror, the director said to Fango that the film’s vibe is closer to classic film noir: "The story itself is very simple, but it’s told in a non-linear fashion. And hopefully, it has a very nightmarish and relentless quality. It’s very bleak noir, like John Boorman’s "Point Blank"."
In "Rise" Lucy Liu plays a reporter who wakes up in a morgue and discovers she's no longer among the living. She vows revenge against the vampires responsible for putting her there and hunts them down one by one.
Michael Chiklis will also star in the film as the male lead. He will play a cop, who lost a daughter to the same monstrous group, trying to track down the gang that dropped Liu's character in the morgue.
Gutierrez added that vampire fans expecting the usual cape-and-fangs ensemble will find that the bloodsuckers are a lot closer to the more humanlike fiends, "There are some conventions that we keep—I’m not trying to reinvent the vampire movie. I’m just taking out the elements that I find silly. Nobody says, 'I’ve been around for 300 years’ in this movie'."
