King of the Ants ReviewPosted by: Goon
The film begins in sunny LA as Sean Crawley(Chris McKenna) is painting a house white. While at the home the electrcian "Duke" (George Wendt) comes to check on the electricity. Sean is hard up on work and Duke realises this so he offers to call him up sometime if he needs any help.
Some days later Duke gives Sean a call and tells him to come to a golf course to meet his buddy. His buddy, Ray Matthews (Daniel Baldwin), offers a "immoral" job to Sean to follow a guy around. Ray empahisises this point by saying "If this guy takes a piss, I want to know what color." So Sean follows this guy around, rather obviously but not getting caught. One night after going on the prowl Sean comes home to a drunken Matthews who now wants Sean to murder the man. Sean is worried but decides if he gets paid 13 grand he will do it. Sean dons his assassin outfit which is quite funny consisting of a large black helmet, a black jump suit and some big runner gloves. But he gets the job done. Soon the news comes on and Matthews is being connected to the murder. So they want Sean out of town without his pay. When Sean won't leave the gang takes things into their own hands and procede to beat the living shit out of him in desert for days on end. But thats no the last you will see of Sean. I must say I have read several reviews of this film and everyone said the same thing, "Its not what you will expect". It is so true. I thought that this would be another average movie with some well known actors with some cameos and some mediocre acting. Not so. This cast is amazing, especially the newcomer Chris McKenna. He plays both the villian and the hero. I found myself rooting for him throughout the entire film. George Wendt definetely isn't singing the Cheers theme song as Norm in this movie either. He is one son of a bitch in this film that you love to hate. Baldwin also makes for a great villain. When Sean is getting beat in the dessert there are some really trippy hallucinations that happen including a shit eating monster. Yea I couldn't believe it either. The makeup used to show Sean beaten is grizzly. To give you an idea think of Quasimodo meets the Elephant Man. It is hard to put this movie in any genre. It has small undertones of black comedy but the brutality of the film almost make it horror. Due to all the sleazy undergoings you could also tag this a crime movie. Overall this is an awesome tale of deciept, murder, and all out mayhem. I would suggest this film to everyone. It really stands on its own 2 feet and has some interesting dialouge. The only down side to this film is some parts are left unexplored and some mediocre acting by the female lead Kari Wuhrer. But I beleive her nude scenes made up for it. So in conclusion I give this film 9 1/2 out of 10 Review by: Luke aka Goon
