Interview : Editor of Flesh CrawlPosted by:
Myself and Moviemaven had a chance to throw some questions to Vincent Rosati, who handled the First Camera duties, as well as being the Editor for the film. So without further delay... on to the interivew! Q. First off, thanks for chatting with us Mr. Rosati. We are pretty excited to see Flesh Crawl. How did you become involved with the making of this film? I’m glad to speak with you. Dustin and I met after high school, in the early 90’s. We’d hang out all the time, and Dustin would occasionally speak of his "old buddy Troy". We remained close friends until the day I moved out of the state. We lost touch for two or three years when I got the call from Dustin. It was August 21, ’04 – about three weeks before the beginning of shooting. My initial meeting with Dustin and Troy was approximately 12 hours before we began to roll cameras. Q. You were First Camera/Editor for the film. Tell us a little bit about what your job entails. Regarding camera operation, both myself and Sean Trumbo (a Communications major at Kutztown University) were brought in for reasons of creativity and reliability, mostly to allow the directors to focus on their job. We were both granted a good deal of input regarding the setup of shots. As for editing, it’s a bit of a complicated process as I am about 100 miles away from the projects center. I start by transferring the DV source via firewire, and capturing the analog source to the DV-Pro format. From that point I begin to build scenes based on the storyline. Up to this point, I’d return to Reading with DVD’s of working scenes for review by Dustin, Troy, and Rex. Changes would be noted, and I would return to Baltimore and make the changes. We’ve recently began using the internet for our proofing process, which is nice. Q. Primary filming ended on June 18th. How is the editing process coming along? We began cutting scenes just months after the beginning of production, creating and testing visual effects, developing the DVD menu. Occasionally, I’ll also need to produce some press graphics, such as the logo. Read the rest of the interview: right here
