Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers gets cast

According to Variety Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford and Adam Beach are starring in Clint Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers, produced by Steven Spielberg. The movie is an adaptation of James Bradley's book "Flags of our Fathers", which was published in 2000, with Ron Powers.

The movie will be placed at the Battle of Iwo Jima, which took place in the winter of 1945. This battle was a turning point in the Pacific Theater. In 36 days of fighting there were 25,851 US casualties (1 in 3 were killed or wounded). Of these, 6,825 American boys were killed. Virtually all 22,000 Japanese perished.

Clint Eastwood teams up with Steven Spielberg and his production company Dream Works. The screenplay is written by Paul Haggis ("Million Dollar Baby", "Crash"). DreamWorks will handle domestic distribution, with Warners taking overseas rights.
