Rent is coming to the big screen

Jonathan Larson's popular rock opera Rent, based on Puccini's opera La Boheme, has been rewritten for the big screen and is set for release on November 11, 2005.

The film is the tale of a group of bohemians who struggle paying rent as artists in New York's East Village while overcoming poverty, illness, and AIDS.

Rent is one of the longest running shows on Broadway, and has won numerous awards including the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

A number of the members from the original Broadway cast will apear in the film, including Idina Menzel (Maureen), Jesse L. Martin (Tom Collins), Adam Pascal (Roger), Anthony Rapp (Mark), and Wilson Heredia (Angel). Also starring Rosario Dawson (Mimi), Taye Diggs (Benny), and Tracie Thomas (Joanne). Directed by Chris Columbus.
