Batman Begins Movie Review by Maven

Batman fans, rejoice! It is rare that I wander over here from Horror-Movies.ca. As you may know, I live for horror and hardly take the time to review anything else. But sometimes I drag myself up from the dungeons to watch other things and can't help but spread my two cents. Christopher Nolan has directed the ulitmate Batman film for real Batman fans.

This new version is dark like it should be and takes us back to the roots of one my favorite superheroes while managing to remain mostly true to the original character. Of course, some things have been altered (they usually are) but I have no complaints. I came away from this film satisfied beyond any expectations. As a matter of fact, I have been burned so many times by comic book films that I don't go in with high expectations anymore. But Nolan has proven that they can be well made if there is a love of the character.

Christian Bale comes on board as Batman and blows us away with his perfect interpretation. And that man can fill out the suit like no one has before. Along with Bale, the amazing cast includes: Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman (a fantastic young Gordon), Cillian Murphy and Katie Holmes. The new Bat Mobile is sufficiently badass and has the ability to go where no Bat Mobile has gone before. The dark, moody atmosphere of this film caters to the fans of the dark, moody batman that we all love.

The effects are superb but not overdone. If I was forced to pick out anything from this film to complain about (and I would have to be forced) it would be that sometimes it is a little too dark which causes us to miss out on some of the kick-ass moves that we know Batman is raining down on his foe. But I can toss in a little imagination to more than make up for that. I do also wish that the Scarecrow was delved into a little deeper. But If I had it my way, the film would be an epic and I would still be watching it.

If you are wondering how I can manage to praise this film so much, see it for yourself. I dare you to disagree. As much as I enjoy the amazing work of Tim Burton and Michael Keaton, their version was never as dark as I always thought it should have been. It was visually stunning but never quite hit the mark. Christopher Nolan nails it and leaves this fan begging for much, much more.

Maven's Score: 9/10 Cause I finally got the Batman I have been waiting for all my life!
