Rue Morgue Magazine, in conjunction with Daniloff Productions, is very
proud to announce the addition of ALEJANDRO JODOROWSKY as a Special Guest for the 2004 RUE MORGUE FESTIVAL OF FEAR National Horror Expo. The highly influential filmmaker, graphic novel writer and Tarot card expert has attracted the interest of and influenced such notable film and music names as Joel & Ethan Coen, Peter Gabriel, Marilyn Manson, Andy Warhol, John Lennon, and Dennis Hopper is considered to be one of the most respected and admired surrealist cult, fantasy and horror directors walking the earth today.

Born in Chile, a son of Russian Jewish immigrants, he started his career with creative work in mime, acting, filmmaking, screenwriting and theatre. He made his first experimental horror film in 1955 and has since created the cult masterpieces EL TOPO, THE HOLY MOUNTAIN, and SANTA SANGRE, among others. In 1975, Jodorowsky began the awesome task of adapting Frank Herbert's colossal novel, Dune, to the screen which was to star Orson Wells, Salvador Dali, and Gloria Swanson with art direction and special effects by H.R. Giger and Dan O'Bannon and 2,000 pre-production storyboard drawings from Jean "Moebius" Girard. The music was being written by Pink Floyd. Unfortunately, it was too elaborate for Hollywood and has since become the greatest film never made. Jodorowsky is a film icon that has transcended every conceivable film style imaginable. The magnitude of his genius and influence at times seems to defy logic. Imagine Argento, Peckinpah, Fellini, and Bunuel rowing a boat in a sea of surreal blood and mysticism and you only begin to comprehend the multi-layered mind of Alejandro Jodorowsky.

Rue Morgue in association with Daniloff Productions, will also be presenting a special screening of Jodorowsky's classic films Holy Mountain (1973) and Santa Sangre (1989) Sunday, August 29 at the Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor St. W., beginning at 7 PM) with the director in attendance, along with Holy Mountain producer ROBERT TAICHER and Canadian actor ROBERT SKIPPER, who starred in Jodorowsky's El Topo.
