How to Lose a guy in 10 Days Review

For every million blood-curtlingly bad chick flicks to enter a cinema near you, there’s always the one bright star illuminating darkness which leaves you feeling finally satisfied with today’s TV. In this case, that one bright star comes in the form of hilarious Rom'Com'  'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.'

In my honest opinion, this is one of the only chick-flick films with a worthy storyline, and talented actors to match, securing it's definite number 1 slot in my top ten chick flicks of all time (yes, and that includes Four weddings and a Funeral, Coyote Ugly, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones). 'How to Lose a Guy' presents a rare lack of predictability in the storyline, as for the first time in chick flick history, the storyline is a no-win situation. With bubbly, sexy, magazine journalist Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson - Almost Famous) aiming to date and lose a guy in 10 days for the sake of her career, and macho, charming, dab-hand in advertising Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey - The Wedding Planner) aiming to make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days for the sake of his career, only one of these two conniving but lovable gamblers can win.

Matthew McConaughey puts in a good performance as Ben Barry, but, and here is my only criticism for the film, it is almost impossible for McConaughey to put any more than a simply good performance into a character who shows no personality through the majority of the film. However, Kate Hudson has been blessed with a character so full of life and wit, that the 'Raising Helen' star is able to put in a fantastic, heartfelt, no-wrongs-found performance, knowing when to laugh, when to cry, and when to adopt that o-so-brilliant baby talk that we girls know full well drives sane men mad.

With it's stereotypical view on men and women, amazing wit and mild slapstick humour, along with fantastic performances from two of Hollywood's sexiest stars, 'How to Lose a Guy' is the ideal film for the perfect night in with the girls. However, I wouldn’t recommend you try any of these moves at home, as you'll soon send your man running for the hills.
