Don Cheadle could be an American Gangster

Variety is reporting that Universal Pictures is in talks with Don Cheadle from "Hotel Rwanda" to star in "American Gangster". American Ganster already had started shooting and was put on hold because of budget concerns. At that time Denzel Washington was the lead. So what happened? Did he get cut because he wanted to much money? Somebody fill me in.

Based on a New York Magazine article by Mark Jacobson, it tells the true story of Frank Lucas ( to be possibly played by Don Cheadle ), a Harlem drug lord (nicknamed 'Superfly') who smuggled heroin into America in the coffins of soldiers killed in Vietnam. He was eventually brought down by New York detective Richie Roberts, and ended up helping the police catch the dirty cops and drug dealers involved in the scheme.

This sounds pretty damn cool to me so I say bring it on! Don Cheadle is a power house actor and will bring alot to this role.
